Joselito M. Ybañez

Joselito M. Ybañez graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management at the Ateneo de Manila University on 1983. After college, he worked with an I.T. company in Silicon Valley and after two years of exposure to the industry, Mr. Ybañez decided to pursue his studies in law. He graduated from the Ateneo Law School in 1989 and passed the Bar Examinations in the same year.

He was then hired as a junior associate at the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala and Cruz Law Office (ACCRALAW), the top law firm in the country based in Manila, where he was promoted as a senior associate after three years and worked as such for two years more. As an ACCRALAW associate, he practiced across different fields of law, actively handling various types of legal work, such as:

  • Extensive civil, labor and corporate litigation;
  • Patent, trademark and copyright protection for clients product lines, to include state of the art or prior art searches, drafting of claims and specifications, prosecution of application, etc;
  • Formation and reorganization of various business organizations, both local and foreign, and procedural compliance with registration requirements for licensure with various government agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Board of Investments, the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the Intellectual Property Office and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.
  • Drafting and finalization of various civil and corporate documents such as commercial joint ventures, franchising, information technology agreements (licensing and product development), property acquisition, rental or sale, asset or share purchase agreements, company plan of merger, settlement of estates, loan agreements, promissory notes and mortgages.

Likewise, as a legal counsel for a leading toy company based in Japan, he had substantial exposure in the legal concerns of its international trade and/or cross-border transactions, substantially relating to intellectual property rights protection and enforcement, product liability, outsourcing and licensing of product design, development and manufacturing, global market distribution. He was also assigned to oversee the general legal requirements of its international companies and subsidiaries located in the Philippines, the United States, Germany and Hong Kong. His responsibilities included the engagement and coordination with various external legal counsels in the Southeast Asia region, particularly those located in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea and the Philippines, as well as in the United States and Germany, in the filing of various patent, copyright and trademark registrations, as well as various other related intellectual property (I.P.) projects and cases.

In his private practice, Mr. Ybañez has had extensive exposure in the fields of civil, and bank case litigation, intellectual property rights protection and enforcement; corporate organization, combinations and reorganizations, property acquisitions and conveyancing.
